A walk between a clear river, ancient forest, and forgotten rural heritage, in a natural setting still preserved from tourist turmoil.

A shaded departure from the Défens wood

Located in the municipality of Montauroux, the Tuve bridge route starts at the parking lot of the Défens stadium. This starting point, slightly set back from the village, allows for a quick immersion into the serene forest atmosphere of the Defens wood. The path descends through the undergrowth, following a steep but well-marked slope.

After a few minutes of walking, the first agricultural ruins appear, discreet witnesses of a time when the Siagne valley hosted intense agricultural activity.

A mineral descent toward the river

At this stage, the path becomes more technical: rolling stones, narrow hairpins, roots crossing… It requires slowing down. This section demands appropriate footwear and constant attention.

Down below, the Siagne suddenly emerges, revealing a postcard-perfect setting. Around a bend, the Tuve bridge appears: a stone arch overlooking a natural basin, dominated by a delicate waterfall. The water is strikingly fresh, and the spot often attracts bathers and hikers seeking tranquility.

Cool break by the water

Upstream of the bridge, the river widens to form a natural beach. Comfortable pebbles, a moderate current, and more importantly, a serene atmosphere conducive to swimming or picnicking can be found here. The environment, entirely mineral and vegetal, occasionally recalls the soft scenes of a pastoral novel.

The route then resumes the course of the Siagne, along its right bank through a wooded path. At this point, the elevation gradually rises. The whispering of the water slowly gives way to the rustling of leaves.

Between ruins and forest trails

Several stone buildings appear at the edge of the path. Collapsed walls, old terraces, and remnants of walls recall the once active farms in this narrow gorge.

Just before the Rey bridge, the vegetation thickens. A sign invites you to follow an uphill path, still well-marked, towards D96. This stretch requires a more sustained effort: the slope increases, the stones multiply, and the heat can be felt during the sunniest hours.

An immersion in the ancient oak grove

As you approach the Defens wood, an almost mystical atmosphere sets in. The path crosses a reserve of century-old oaks: twisted trunks, spiraling branches, thick moss… The trees form an impressive vault, resembling a vegetable cathedral.

This setting beautifully concludes the route, just before returning to the starting cistern and the parking lot of the stadium.

Note before departure

This route, although marked, has rocky passages and steep descents. It is important to remain cautious, especially near the water. The Siagne may seem calm, but the current remains unpredictable. Keep a close watch on children, especially near Tuve bridge or in the swimming area.

Finally, the shaded areas and water points make this loop ideal for hot days, but unstable weather can quickly complicate progress. It is highly recommended to check the weather forecast before departure.
